Band Synergy

According to Wikipedia, synergy “is the term used to describe a situation where different entities cooperate advantageously for a final outcome. Simply defined, it means that the whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts.” Taking that concept further, the band itself becomes an individual entity, and that entity must cultivate its own artistic development just as much as the musicians within it should.

Band cohesion – determine your common artistic goals, and work together to achieve them onstage

Band rehearsal efficiency – get more out of your practice time while keeping the positive energy flowing

Onstage band communication – think as one, work with a common purpose, and know that you’ve “got each other’s back”

Front person skills – bring intention, clarity and purpose to your presentation, and let the audience know you’ll take care of them

Side musician skills – define and hone each individual’s niche within the ensemble

Instrumentation, arrangements, and backup vocals – take a fresh look at your material, and utilize these elements to the best possible effect

Staging and stage plotting – examine and improve how you use the performance space

Side musician auditioning – determine what you’re looking for, and listening for, in a potential band-mate, and don’t settle for anything less
